Welcome to the small but mighty Riverside neighbourhood. Home to Toronto’s most well-known street, Degrassi (sorry Yonge!), this community is a highly recognizable part of the city. With a perfect mix of residential and commercial properties, Riverside real estate has a family-friendly atmosphere without alienating non-parents. It’s a completely walkable area, with streetcars and buses providing a quick route to the Bloor-Danforth subway line. Riverside real estate is also close to schools, community centres, and all the java you could ever need.
What Makes It Cool
Thanks to Degrassi, this area is visually what most of North America thinks Toronto looks like–not a bad place to be representing for us! This area was essentially revitalized by the 1990s staff of CBC. Hence why Degrassi and ‘90s gem Riverdale are set around the area.
Might Not Be For You If...
The sight of another new condo development scares you. With projects like Riverside Square and Streetcar’s Broadview Hotel, the area is seeing a good chunk of construction time.
Meet Your Neighbours
You’ll meet some artsy seniors who have lived in the area for 20+ years and plenty of young families who have just moved in. Riverside real estate has high transit and walk scores, so families can easily raise their children car-free.

Highlights
Bonjour Brioche, a famous café and brunch-focused spot, is a must-try. It is a little cramped and the service is hit or miss, but the line-ups out front on weekends prove the food is worth it.
La Carnita has brought their hip-hop soundtrack and fresh tacos to Queen East. They make a killer cocktail and serve up street corn to die for. Bonus: Sweet Jesus Ice Cream is built onto the front of it.
The Opera House is a mainstay for all ages, hosting battles of the bands, art auctions, and community fundraisers. It keeps some edge to the community and is an important landmark in Toronto.
