Guess what, it’s free!
Just about every weekend I do an open house. There, I meet people from all walks of life, popping in and taking a look at what very well could be their new home. When speaking with people, quite a few of them are searching for their home by themselves. They’re hunting online, looking at pictures and going to open houses to view them. Which is amazing! After asking everyone if they are working with a Realtor to show them houses, get some more in depth information on properties they like etc. the majority say “No, not yet”. My curiosity gets the best of me and I ask, “Why not yet?” – the answer (mostly) is “Well, we don’t want to get tied into a contract and paying the commission for just seeing houses”.
Let’s quell some fears right now – did you know, as a buyer, when working with an agent, he/she not only has your best interests at heart, you are also protected under their insurance and best of all it’s FREE!
Honestly, in this market, you are paying enough for a house, you shouldn’t be paying for the agent as well. That is on the onus of the sellers. So go to some open houses and instead of just looking at the house, interview the agents too, get as much information from them as you can, and pick one you think you would like to work with – it doesn’t cost you a thing!
